Rougham School Council was established in September 2003.
Each class elects two members at the beginning of the school year. These council representatives are presented with a special folder and a badge to wear during one of the ‘Superstars Assemblies’. Each class also has a suggestion box, which children may contribute to at any time. As council members they are expected to attend council meetings, have an involvement in some school assemblies and support their class members. The children work closely with the Headteacher and the Deputy Headteachers.
The council meets each half term when the class representatives are given the opportunity to feedback the ideas of the whole class. Each meeting has a particular theme about school life which is chosen to engage pupils in discussion and help to promote citizenship.
The schools P.T.A kindly donate £100 each year to provide the council with their own small budget.
The council has been very successful and has been responsible for agreeing new playtime arrangements and purchasing some new play equipment, decorating the boys and girls toilets and improving the amount of litter to be found in and around the school.
Mrs Grimes leads the meetings and other teachers attend on a rota basis. The visiting teacher takes the minutes, which are later printed and put in a book which can be found in the school entrance area. |
