Foundation Subjects

Design and Technology

Technology is often linked to topic work. Children gain experience using a variety of tools, materials and techniques increasing their choice and developing their skills as they progress through the school.

History

Topics are planned to develop the children's historical skills, following the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 and Study Units for Key Stage 2. We aim to foster an interest in the past from a personal, local, national and world perspective.

Geography

The children learn about their immediate environment and how to use maps to map their world. As they progress they learn more about the wider world, including environmental issues.

Art

We offer the children as wide a range of materials and experiences as possible. They are introduced to the work of European and world artists which helps stimulate their own ideas. We believe art offers unique opportunities for children to express themselves creatively.

Music

The children sing regularly and are given the opportunity to compose using percussion instruments, and perform to a variety of audiences. They learn to appreciate music by listening to music of many composers. Children may learn recorder in a school club.

Physical Education

This includes gymnastics, athletics, games, dance including country dancing, and swimming. The extensive school grounds and heated swimming pool allow us to cover the P.E. Curriculum effectively.
