At Rougham Primary School we follow the revised National Curriculum,
which took effect from September 2000.
During the Foundation Stage (up to the end of the Reception Year) children
are working towards early learning goals in:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development, and Creative development
All teaching is set in the context of lively purposeful activity and play, appropriate for the needs of young children.
In Key Stage 1 and 2 children are taught English, mathematics, science, ICT (information and communication technology), design and technology, history, geography, art and design, music and physical education. Religious education is taught following an Agreed Syllabus drawn up by Suffolk Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education.
Education is not only concerned with skills and knowledge but is also about attitudes and values. A programme of personal, social and health education and an introduction to citizenship are taught in Years 1-4, and aspects of children's work in many subjects contributes to this.
Our school aims include provision for children's spiritual, moral and cultural development through many curriculum areas and for educational inclusion and equality of opportunity.
Enrichment activities to broaden children's experience and deepen their understanding are provided by the school staff in a range of after school clubs, which over the year, include recorders, singing, chess, computers and maths. Parents run football and
netball coaching sessions and a swimming club is run by the P.T.A. during the summer holidays.
