Key Stages & Transfer to Middle School

Foundation Stage is followed by children up to the end of the Reception Year. Key Stage 1 covers Years 1 and 2; Key Stage 2 covers Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (Years 5 and 6 are currently at Middle School but Suffolk is currently undergoing a School Organisation Review moving away from a 3 tier system).

Rougham School belongs to the Thurston Pyramid of schools. This includes thirteen other First Schools, three Middle Schools, and Thurston Community College. The schools frequently work together in a collaborative and supportive manner which benefits all children within the pyramid. We also work closely with Cockfield and Thurston Primary School with whom we form a cluster group within the pyramid.

Parents will be asked to express a preference for a Middle school during Autumn Term in Year 4. Children normally go on to attend Beyton Middle School after leaving Rougham. We work particularly closely with Beyton Middle School to ensure continuity. Children have the opportunity to visit Beyton several times during their last year .

Our Local Authority is Suffolk County Council from which we have access to a wide range of other specialists and support services including the Medical and Psychology service, Subject Advisers, Learning Support team, Schools Library Service and the wider range of management services offered by the County Council.
