Well-balanced and nutritious meals are prepared on the premises by our kitchen staff. These represent good value, and menus are sent home weekly or you can log onto our Learning Zone for the latest Menus.
School meals fully comply with the strict nutritional standards that were introduced in September 2008. The menu also includes a high proportion of homemade recipes, prepared using locally/regionally sourced produce where possible. Indeed our caterers, Suffolk County Catering have been judged as being amongst the top four local authority caterers in the country when it comes to purchasing local/regional produce. Also children from our very own gardening club often supply our kitchen with additional fresh produce.
School dinners cost £2.10 per day and this is paid termly, weekly or daily. This represents excellent value for money relative to the effort involved in producing a freshly cooked meal, the cost of the alternative cold packed lunch from home, and compares well with the prices of school meals in some other council areas.
Our caterers do not make a profit from the service, but for the school to be able to offer an economic service, we need to have as many pupils eating a school meal as possible. We strongly believe that the lunchtime meal is an important part of the school day.
Choosing a school lunch helps children by:
- Providing a nutritious, balanced value for money meal that meets the new government standards
- Learning how to enjoy a balanced diet and the chance to try new foods
- Providing a safe, supervised environment with their friends
- Helping them to concentrate, learn and develop their social skills
- Showing what we mean by a healthy well balanced diet
Even though the school would regret a child going without a cooked school dinner, we are within our rights to refuse if parents are not up to date with school dinner payments.

Packed Lunches
Please involve your children in making healthy choices for their packed lunches. No glass bottles, fizzy drinks or sweets/chocolates please. Chocolate covered biscuit bars, cakes or crisps etc. are all fine as part of a balanced lunch. Please include a piece of kitchen roll within the packed lunch box as we encourage the children to unpack their lunch boxes and not leave their boxes on the lunch table.
