Under Suffolk L.A Admissions Policy there is a single admission date each year in September, for children whose fifth birthday falls between 1 September and 31 August.
Children may be admitted into the Reception Class either full-time or half time, depending on when they have their fifth birthday.
In Suffolk children may attend full-time when they are Rising-5's - i.e. at the beginning of the term in which they will have their fifth birthday.
Children must legally attend school full-time in the term following their fifth birthday, the national statutory school age.
The County council is responsible for admissions to the school. The admissions policy, procedures and Suffolk's co-ordinated admissions schemes are set out in L.A publication Schools in Suffolk* (available from the school office or Suffolk County Council). Any parent who would like to be considered for early entrance must apply to the Local Education Authority in writing stating their reasons for their request. Each application is considered on its merits.
An induction meeting is held during July for new parents giving an opportunity to meet the Reception class teacher, Nursery Nurse and the Headteacher; look around the school; and ask any questions. All children will be invited to visit the Reception class, and are offered a complimentary school lunch with their parents in the term before they begin full-time school.
Children who attend Rougham Acorns Playgroup will have opportunities to visit the school in the term before they start school.
